Stuart A. Whittington

Stuart A. Whittington is a Patent Agent registered before the USPTO since 1998.  Stuart earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and minor in Semiconductor Physics from the University of Utah in 1996 with a curriculum focused on RF and optical communications technologies.  He attained his Juris Doctor from the University of New Hampshire’s Franklin Pierce Law Center and was admitted as a licensed member of the Utah State Bar Association in 1999.

Stuart offers clients expert legal counsel and services in IP/business transactions, litigation proceedings and licensing/contracting based on nearly twenty years of experience practicing law for multi-national law firms and companies.  His practice focuses primarily on protection of client innovations, business and product branding, IP infringement assertions, and product clearance analysis relating to electrical, software and mechanical technologies with particular specialization in WMAN/WLAN/WPAN communication technologies and related standards. 

Stuart has significant expertise in intellectual property matters relating to IEEE and ETSI standards organizations includes preparing/prosecuting/modifying over 1,200 US and foreign patents to issuance declared or confirmed essential to various standards including IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi), LTE/LTE Advanced, IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX).  He has advanced motion and briefing practice representing clients in numerous patent infringement, trademark and trade secret disputes in multi-district, International Trade Commission and Federal Circuit litigations.

Mr. Whittington’s has a technical background including design and test of RF monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) as a Satellite Communications Engineer for Lockheed-Martin and a Biomedical Equipment Technician serving in the United States Army since 1986.
